Burger-mania and a visit with Sharon Thompson!

I always go for the food section in every newspaper I read and I’m a big fan of Sharon Thompson’s, the Lexington Herald Leader’s food writer.  Michael’s mom, Katy, bought me a signed copy of her cookbook, Flavors of Kentucky, which really helped me acquaint myself with local specialties.  Come check out her blog as well!

Sharon covered my visit to Build a Better Burger, my trip to the Olympics, and my recent appearance on the Ultimate Recipe Showdown, but we’ve never actually sat down together to chat.

Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of having Sharon over to the house, where we nibbled on ginger molasses cookies and discussed the upcoming National Chicken Cook-off.

I’m so looking forward to visiting San Antonio, meeting all the other finalists, and seeing my sister and brother in-law!  It still amazes me that I’ve been able to travel to Napa, New York, and now to San Antonio, just because of a recipe.  I’m really thankful for all the great sponsors out there that give us fledgling recipe developers an outlet for our creativity!

A photographer from the Herald-Leader also stopped by to take some photos of me in the kitchen, preparing my dish.  The article should run sometime next week, so I’ll be sure to post the link, photos, and recipe.  In the mean time, here’s one that I snapped.

National Chicken is the first contest in which I’ve entered more than one recipe.  (I usually do everything at the last minute and am amazed at how lucky I got with BBB and URS!)

Despite having entered half a dozen different chicken recipes utilizing everything from rotisserie chicken to chicken thighs, the one they chose was yet another burger!  Yippee!!!  Maybe I’ll finally get a chance to bust out those burger earrings I bought for BBB that arrived too late!
