For about a month now, I’ve been baking sweet treats for a local gourmet deli/wine shop/grocer called Wine+Market in downtown Lexington. Located on the corner of 2nd and Jefferson, Wine+Market is reminiscent of a Parisian cornerstore where you can sit at a communal table with a cup of coffee & croissant, browse an affordable and unique wine selection, pick up an array of fine cheeses & meats, or have a really inspired sandwich, soup, and salad. I mean, really, where else in town can you find a duck confit, mountain gorgonzola, Kentucky pear, and quince preserve panini?
Wine + Market is open Monday-Friday 8am-8pm and Saturday 10am-8pm. Gather up your buddies for their weekly wine and cheese tastings, Friday evenings from 5pm-8pm.
I love seeing what sells (anything with fruit, really) and what sticks around a little longer (apparently Lexington does not share my obsession with Belgian sugar waffles). Thus far I’ve made apple galettes, chocolate chip cookies, nutella-filled shortbread hearts, raspberry lemon tarts, chocolate pecan pies, blueberry pear streusel tarts, almond pound cake, banana loaves, carrot cupcakes, coconut almond granola, biscotti, and my latest obsession, French macarons (chocolate, pistachio, and caramel). If you are not familiar with the macaron, just google it and you will be faced with a plethora of obsessed bloggers proclaiming their love for this ethereally light and delightfully chewy cookie and the nearly-impossible-to-master technique it takes to make them.
I can’t believe how quickly I’m running through 10 lb bags of flour and sugar (granulated, brown, and powdered). And I’m a bit embarassed at the sheer quantity of butter I am now purchasing (4 lbs at a time, once or twice a week). However, this is a great excuse to stock up on those bakery items I’ve been coveting (tart pans and pie weights and parchment, oh my!)
I hope to improve upon my food photography (these photos were taken as I was rushing out the door to deliver) and post more photos soon! In the mean time, come down to the shop and take a peek at everything they have to offer. Let’s support a local gem like this one, in addition to keeping our bellies full of delicious eats!

OMG those look DEElicious! I’m dying to sink my teeth into one of those raspberry tarts. (My stomach is literally growling right now.)
