I’m Going to China!

My passport is going to get quite the workout this year - I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be getting a once-in-a-lifetime chance to work the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing!

I was selected as part of a group of culinary students/graduates/instructors from my program to work as contract labor for a catering company based out of NY. They worked the games in Athens, Torino, and Atlanta, so they’re experienced with the sheer volume and logistics involved in such a massive undertaking.

We’ve been divided up into two groups: the HPTC and the USA House. The HPTC, or High Performance Training Center, is focused on catering to the nutritional needs of the athletes, and their goal is to provide offerings similar to the training diets back home. I’ll be working at the USA House, a Budweiser sponsored party venue, which will host the medal celebrations in addition to providing daily restaurant style options to members of the US Olympic Committee, corporate sponsors, media, trainers, athletes, and their families. Yikes!

I’ll be leaving in a few short weeks and will be in Beijing from July 29-August 27. I’m anxious at the thought of leaving our cozy home, the beautiful Lexington summer, and Michael (I mean, what in the world is he going to EAT for a whole month?!?), but I can’t wait to see it all!
