A few weeks ago, I was playing around on the Food Network website and saw that they were casting the 4th season of their reality tv show, “Who Wants to Be the Next Food Network Star? At the time, the deadline (which has since been extended to Sept 4) was July 30, which gave me 4 days.
Something about that finality made me really want to whip up a 3 minute tape to send in. So on a whim, I called up Michael’s brother in-law, Charles, who is the chief cameraman for the local news. I had made pho earlier that week and had everything in the fridge, so I was basically all set.
TV show or not, I love that I have a video of myself in the wee early months of my cooking career. I still hate watching it, but hopefully I’ll get over that.

Contrary to popular belief, I’m actually a bit shy when it comes to these things and this was SO much harder than I thought it would be. I didn’t practice, we only had a couple hours, and I realized that I make a lot of
funny faces when I’m nervous.
